2009 TAP™ University
The 2009 TAP™ University (in partnership with the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching) has been restructured based on your needs. For new TAP™ schools and new evaluators, TAP™ 101 will still be offered as a 5 day training throughout the entire week. Sessions for existing evaluators will be a combination of 2 full day sessions offered on Monday and Tuesday and multiple shorter sessions on Wednesday. You are able to choose between the Administrative Academy, Kagan Differentiation, or Cognitive Coaching using the TAP™ model for the 2 day sessions. These sessions will run all day on both Monday and Tuesday. Numerous sessions will be offered on Wednesday at varying times throughout the day in a similar format to the 2008 TAP™ University. When registering new TAP™ Schools, new Teachers and new Administrators, please choose “New TAP™ Evaluator” on the registration page. You will automatically be schedlued to attend the following sessions.
Monday-Friday TAP™ 101
This session is the beginning rubric training that anyone new to the program will need to attend. If you are a new school or a new hire to a school and have not yet been trained, plan to attend. These sessions will run Monday-Friday.

Monday/Tuesday Sessions
These Monday and Tuesday sessions are all day trainings on both days. Please sign up for only one of these two-day sessions.
Administrative Leadership Academy
This session is designed for the school leadership but not limited to administrators only. The focus is on leadership responsibilities and overall with implementation of TAP™. Some topics will include:
- Maintaining an Effective Leadership Team: As the title states, the leadership team is a vital aspect to effective management of TAP™. During this portion, topics such as areas of DICE, implementation of topics and effective development will be discussed.
- Observation and Value Added Data: CODE is a dynamic resource yet to be fully and effectively “TAP™ped.” This session will focus on how to use CODE, EVAAS, and other tools to effectively become a data driven school. Specifically, we will look at analyzing teaching capacity through data.
- Protecting From Inflation: Inflation tendencies will be examined, an in-depth look at the rubric and expectations will be analyzed, and ideas will be generated to avoid the trap of inflation.
- Annual Review: This session will focus on the trends and observations from the state wide perspective of Annual Review. We will examine the scoring process as well as what different scores looked like in practice. Actual school scores will not be given; rather, a holistic view of state data will give you a school perspective.
- Cluster coaching: Moving from a proficient cluster to an exemplary cluster requires constant analysis and reflection. A vital aspect to growth is working with the school leadership to coach through the difficulties of cluster.

Coaching in the TAP™ System
This session will be the beginning of a year long look at coaching within the TAP™ Model. The summer session of this training will examine what is coaching, identifying your specific coaching style, and items to look for while using your coaching skills. This seminar will be interactive allowing participants to work on coaching in various forms, including the pre-conferencing, post-conferencing, problem solving, and groups. Each participant will practice coaching in each of these styles and identify areas of greatest need to continue to examine coaching throughout the school year.

KAGAN Training Academy
Teaching the way the brain learns best is the focus of this workshop! Wednesday Breakout Sessions
Action Research (110 minutes)
This session will focus on collecting and using data at classroom level to make informed instructional decisions. It will also examine how to utilize a classroom as a researcher and use the classroom setting to help research concepts within IGPs.

ADEPT-TAP™ (50 minutes)
A member of the South Carolina Department of Education will explain the correlation between our state evaluation/certification system and the Teacher Advancement Program.

Advanced Rubric Instruction (110 minutes) Implementing Rubric into Cluster
This session will focus on reviewing the latest version of the teaching portion of TAP™ 101 and the instructional rubric. Additionally, participants will create a cluster implementation module that will allow schools to design a 6 to 8 week cluster review cycle at the beginning of the year to aid teachers with greater understanding of the instructional rubric.

Annual Review (50 minutes)
This session will focus on the trends and analysis from around the state regarding the annual review. A recap of the scoring process as well as the generalizations will be discussed. The end of this session will take the participant into the next phase of using the annual review to help modify the school implementation to allow the schools to perform at greater levels.
Wednesday 1:30-2:20 Congaree B
Cluster 202 (110 minutes)
Cluster 202 will be an analysis of the STEPS to Effective Learning and how the implementation looks at multiple levels. The participants examine cluster meeting records and data to analyze the effects of data and critical attributes on a cluster. The participants will also look at long range plans as defined by cluster leaders IGPs and identify trends and generalizations of common cluster elements. As a group, the participants will build a cluster that would score at an exemplary level.

Cluster 303 (110 minutes)
Cluster 303 will be an analysis of the cluster model. Participants will not only judge clusters for their effectiveness, but will also work in groups to modify and coach clusters to an exemplary level.

Cluster Strategies (50 minutes)
This session will use the wealth of knowledge in our state to address strategies that have been tested in the field and cluster. The session will focus on presenting multiple strategies, the field testing behind them, the critical attributes to them and how they were implemented into cluster. Research will be presented and the effectiveness of the strategy will be discussed by the Master teachers who used them.

Critical Attributes (50 minutes)
This session will focus on identifying critical attributes from field testing. The session will work through identifying critical attributes and characteristics of them, looking for them in classroom applications, and how to work them into cluster meetings in an effective way.

EVAAS (50 minutes)
The creators of SAS have developed a user guide for EVAAS. This session will be a guide through the user guide focusing on the reports and functions that are useful in analyzing the student data in the system.
Wednesday 10:30-11:20 Carolina B
Grant Writing (110 minutes)
A grant writing specialist from the State Department of Education will work with participants on techniques on writing grants and aiding schools in retrieving money through grant writing.

IGPs for Cluster Leaders (50 minutes)
This session allow the participants to view examples of cluster leaders’ IGPs and analyze them for strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, a workshop portion will allow the participants to build and modify IGPs to begin the process for the upcoming school year.

IGPs for Career Teachers (50 minutes)
This session allows the participants to view examples of career teachers’ IGPs and analyze them for strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, a workshop portion will allow the participants to build and modify IGPs to begin the process for the upcoming school year. A small portion of the meeting will focus on coaching teachers to the next level on an IGP.

Overview of TAP™ Rubric Training (50 minutes)
TAP™ 101 training has been revised for the 2009-2010 school year. Feedback from previous trainings lead us to incorporate more interaction among participants and to provide additional strategies to take back to the schools. This session will give an overview of the 5 day training and highlight activities to introduce or review the TAP™ Rubrics. Materials will also be given out (one per school).

Promoting Differentiation of Instruction (multiple models) (1/2 day)
This session will focus on planning for differentiation of instruction focusing on the key components of planning, assessment, flexible grouping, and respectful tasks. Applications will be made to the rubrics and to cluster.

Required Recertification Test (unlimited)
Annual recertification test will be shown. Evaluators will watch a video, score the lesson using the TAP™ Instructional Rubric, and submit their post conference plan.

Standards (50 minutes)
A member of the South Carolina Department of Education will explain the vertical articulation of standards and the concepts behind how they were devised and how they will be tested.

Student Characteristics in Cluster (50 minutes)
This session will focus on identifying student characteristics, and utilizing the student data in an effective way. The participants will identify student characteristics from different pieces. The participants will look at how student characteristics are woven throughout all the STEPS during cluster.

Understanding Value Added (50 minutes)
This session will bring the concept of value added to life with new graphics and explanations to help all members of a school community to understand and be able to explain the value added growth model and the TAPtm bonus awards.
