South Carolina International Teacher Initiatives
The Division of Educator Quality and Leadership has established a strong track record in the recruitment of exceptional international teachers to South Carolina’s classrooms. (International educators are also placed in classrooms through private companies.) The South Carolina International Visiting Teachers Program currently has Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with China, France, Spain and India. Teachers are employed in a variety of content areas to include: math, science, special education, English as a second language, and foreign language instruction.
South Carolina offers two visa options for visiting educators: a Cultural Exchange Program using the J-1 Visa and/or the H-1B Work Visa Program which offers terms for a longer stay. Each district can determine which program is the best fit.
