2011 Chinese Bridge to American Schools Trip
The South Carolina Department of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language July 31, 2003. The MOU was recently renewed to include assistance provided by the Confucius Institutes. The University of South Carolina and Presbyterian College established Confucius Institutes in 2008 to promote education about Chinese language, culture, and society in South Carolina. School districts interested in placing teachers from China may submit a teacher request form.
A Chinese delegation from Hebei, China visited South Carolina to tour schools and discuss collaborations for partnerships. The delegation included 10 principals and assistant principals representing 5 middle and high schools from the Hebei Province. The group met with Deputy Superintendent Mark Bounds from the Division of School Effectiveness and visited Lexington High School.
