PACE Course List
Current PACE participants (those who have been fully admitted and are currently employed as a PACE participant in a South Carolina Public School) are required to complete three college courses. These courses must be from the list of core courses approved by the Division of Educator Quality and Leadership on behalf of the State Board of Education. Courses identified for individual teachers will be based on the individual's experience, knowledge, skills, and feedback from the educator's induction year. The identified courses will be part of the educator's Assisting, Developing, and Evaluating Professional Teaching (ADEPT) professional development plan. Courses must be approved by the State Department of Education. It is recommended that coursework should be completed sometime after the first year of teaching.
The three required courses must be completed for graduate credit and an assigned grade of B or better. However, no more than one of the courses (three semester hours) can be designated as a Professional Development (PD) course. Only the PD course may be completed as pass/fail.
Course requirements and procedures vary depending on a partipant's cohort.
Participants in Cohorts One, Two, or Three must submit the PACE Course Approval Form (3 page pdf) and a copy of the course description or syllabus for approval. These participants must take a graduate course from each of three categories. Courses must be at a regionally accredited college or university.
Effective Cohort Four, participants will have access to a list of pre-approved courses. These courses do not require a course approval form. If participants want to take one of the required courses that is not on the pre-approved course list, they must submit the PACE Course Approval Form – Effective Cohort Four (1 page pdf) and a copy of the course description or syllabus for approval. Courses not pre-approved must be taken at the graduate level. More information on the required courses effective Cohort Four is available in the PACE Course Requirements Booklet posted for current participants on Blackboard.
