National Board Certification
South Carolina values the hard work of those teachers who
voluntarily earn National Board Certification.
- The National Board of Professional Teaching
Standards (NBPTS) provides experienced teachers the opportunity for professional
growth while seeking National Certification.
- South Carolina's Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement
provides a listing of incentives offered
by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) as well
as a current roster of South
Carolina's National Board Certified teachers.
- National
Board Teacher Recertification
- Several incentives include a substantial pay increase and the ability to borrow up to $2,300
for assessment fees. Half the loan is forgiven upon submission of the portfolio;
the other half is forgiven upon achievement of certification within the three-year
period.
- In 2005, 574 teachers joined the ranks of 3,870 South Carolina colleagues
who had already earned the highest credential available in the teaching profession.
That brought the total to 4,444, ranking the Palmetto State third in the nation
after North Carolina and Florida. The state remains second overall in the
percentage of teachers completing the process, just behind North Carolina.
