Changes to requirements for add-on certification
Effective June 25, 2004 changes have been made to Regulation 43-62 and 43-64 regarding add-on requirements for some certification areas. The revised regulations are now in the South Carolina Teacher Certification Manual. The areas that changed include elementary, early childhood, middle level language arts, middle level math, middle level social studies and media specialist. The area of administrator was eliminated. Individuals who already had a worksheet issued by the Office of Teacher Certification in one of the changed or eliminated areas are allowed until September 1, 2006 to complete those requirements or become subject to the new requirements now. Individuals who request a worksheet in a revised area after June 25, 2004 have to meet the new requirements.
In addition to the changes already mentioned, a new alternative option for district superintendent certification is now provided. Please check the South Carolina Teacher Certification Manual for the specific requirements now in effect.
