Required Examinations

In addition to the completion of specified scholastic requirements, an individual applying for teacher licensure must present the minimum required score on the appropriate examination(s) as established by the South Carolina State Board of Education.

A summary of test information is available through the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The ETS site also has specific information on each test, sample test questions and registration information.

Please note that new tests and new passing scores have been approved for some areas and phase-in schedules have been developed. Be sure to consult the test requirements listed below to determine the implementation schedule for all South Carolina test requirements. Special Education Emotionally Disabled applicants must pass a third Praxis.

Notice

When registering for Praxis II tests through the Educational Testing Service (ETS), please provide your social security number in order for your scores to be reported to the South Carolina Department of Education. Scores are reported electronically and matched to our database using your social security number. If a social security number is not listed on your score report, processing of your certificate will be delayed and you may be required to request another official score report from ETS at an additional cost.
